Manage your SIM with SIM Manager 2.3, import contacts from a CSV file, SIM card reader |

Where did SIM backup go?
We decided to remove the SIM Backup and SIM Restore features because they were redundant. The same actions can be performed by reading the SIM card, saving it to a PHN (Phonebook file) format; then opening the file again and writing it to a SIM:
Then you have to choose which SIM card reader to write the data to, that's all.
Transferring contacts from an address book to the SIM card using a SIM card reader
The CSV import dialog was updated, now you can easily deal with cases in which the CSV file contains a lot of fields. Previously this would be difficult because there is no easy way to indicate the corresponding fields in the CSV file and on the SIM.
This is not that much of a problem on 2G cards, which have only two fields – name and number; but in the case of Nextel cards this is quite a challenge. The effect is multiplied when we take into account the fact that usually CSV files are used to export the contacts from Microsoft Outlook or Palm Desktop (actually, any mail client or PIM application can be used in this example) – their address books contain a lot of fields, most of which are not relevant in the context of the SIM.
The new import dialog makes everything a matter of several clicks. To map one field to another, simply drag and drop it to the right position. As soon as you do that, the window is automatically updated, allowing you to see the consequence of the action you just did. You can change mappings by dragging the label to another field and you can ignore a field by simply dragging it outside the working area.
This is not all, the CSV import dialog will be improved in the next release, there are several ideas that we haven't yet implemented. The key detail here is that unlike in the previous versions, which took a great number of operations to get the field mapping done right, SIM Manager 2.3 does it in a few clicks, giving you a realtime preview.
Viewing a long SMS
The new version makes it easier to process long SMS. Previously one had to scroll the window in order to read the entire message. This is not necessary anymore, a tooltip removes the need to use the scroll bar.
Fixed dialling numbers, FDN
Fixed dialling numbers were supported by SIM Manager since the 1.x branch, however there was a missing feature – activate or deactivate the FDN. The program was only able to edit the list, but you still needed a phone to activate it. Not anymore, from now on this can be done directly in SIM Manager.
There were many other "under the hood" changes which are not reflected in the program's interface. Some of them are related with processing the data read from the SIM cards, others are related to handling cases in which there are several SIM card readers connected to the system.
