Enabling/Disabling automatic disk encryption key backup

Top  Previous  Next

The Options tab of Private Disk's Control Panel allows you to enable or disable the automatic backups of the disks' encryption keys. To do that, click the Try to create a backup copy of the disk's encryption key automatically checkbox.

If the option is enabled, an encrypted copy of the disk's encryption key will be created and updated whenever the properties of the image are changed. When you enter the password to decrypt your data, Private Disk verifies if the properties of the disk were changed, and if so - back them up. This is how the program keeps an up to date copy of the image's encryption key and its properties.

If the encrypted image becomes corrupt, Private Disk will try to find a previously made backup, and use it to gain access to the data.

Note. You can also backup the disk's encryption key manually, choosing a custom name and path for the backup.
